How On Earth Did This Happen?

Last week was Vacation Bible School at our church. I spent the week hunched over my laptop in the church office doing lesson plans for my youngest who is now ready for her own weekly assignment sheets while the children did the VBS thing. (No I do not volunteer. I am SO not a VBS teacher!) When I picked them and their bags of crafts up at the endof the week, each of them had a plaster footprint that they had made. Even though my oldest was a volunteer, he had also made a footprint. I held that footprint in my hand…incredulous. I took my shoes off and measured. Yep. His foot is bigger than mine…..by quite a little bit. Mercy! When did that happen?

Coming soon….a trip to Seaworld.

The Fire Gene

Depite having been given a lovely grill as a wedding present, we don’t grill. Stan doesn’t grill. Doesn’t like it. Never has. I think in the course of our marriage we have grilled three times and once was to empty the propane tank so we could put it on the moving van.

Enter Boy Scouts of America. They have awakened the inner “He-man Master of the Grill” lurking inside my oldest child. Apparently, the fire gene skipped a generation. He convinced Stan that I needed to get a grill for my birthday and so….we have a new grill sitting on the patio and we’ve actually used it. Twice even. Tim boldly declared the he would never burn anything on the grill, so we didn’t notice the black spots on the hot dogs and shrimp.

We also have a new family member. Jaya was was bereft without Lalitha (Yes, Jaya who else did you think?) so we went to the SPCA and picked out a new friend for her. Maya is a very sweet cat with a tail as furry and expessive as a squirrel’s. She picked us actually. She allowed the children to hold her and then packed herself into my purse! We had several days of hissing and cautious feeling out of one another but the two of them have been spotted sleeping in one giant fur pile so I think serious friendship is in the work.
